What makes it 76% Kids-Friendly: Kids pay child fare, feed trout, and may steer the boat, yet play space is tight and only one small toilet serves the 105-minute trip, so boredom or queues are possible.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Allows time for boarding, 90-minute cruise, and fish-feeding without rushing kids.
Feed wild trout off the jetty:
Before boarding, watch and feed wild trout and native eels at Bob's Cove.
Tip: Bring a small handful of bread from home and ask the crew if feeding is allowed today.
Classic 90-minute scenic cruise:
Glide across Lake Wakatipu past Glenorchy and the Southern Alps.
Tip: Book an early departure to avoid crowds and secure good seats indoors.
Kids steer from the open flybridge:
Captain invites young crew to help steer and learn about navigation.
Tip: Head to the top deck early and let the captain know your kids want to join.

Excellent 90min cruise. Our Captain was very knowledgeable and shared so much information with us. It was very fascinating. Views were beautiful. We had a group of 7 and all thoroughly enjoyed it. Great value for money.

Definitely a must-do when visiting Queenstown. Great way to start your visit to learn some history of the area and take in the gorgeous scenery. Dan, the Captain, and Em were lovely hosts. Thoroughly enjoyed Dan's informative commentary and humor. Excellent value for money and a drink on the Top Deck was superb. Plenty of opportunity to take nice photos and video.
In summer, pack sunscreen, hats and water for open-deck fun. In winter, wrap kids in provided blankets or take the Twilight Cruise to see town lights.
