What makes it 71% Kids-Friendly: Family-labelled ballets and concerts plus optional backstage tours engage children, yet two-hour sit-down shows, no play zone and limited snack options may test patience.
Why 2–3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Enough time to watch a show, explore the foyer audio tour, and enjoy snacks without rushing younger children.
Attend a family-friendly show:
Choose from shows tagged “Family-Friendly” like Creation Creation or The Nutcracker.
Tip: Book seats early; pick mid-level stalls for best sightlines with kids.
Join a Young Explorers backstage tour:
See costumes, props, and backstage areas on a guided tour designed for children.
Tip: Reserve tour in advance through Ticketek and request child-friendly timing.
Explore the self-guided audio tour:
Download the Open Christchurch audio guide to hear ghost stories and theatre anecdotes.
Tip: Bring individual headphones so each child can listen comfortably.
Enjoy hot chocolate in the foyer:
Grab a kids’ hot chocolate or juice at the theatre bar between acts.
Tip: Arrive early to explore the bars on each level; no outside food allowed.

It was my first time to pay a visit to Isaac Theatre Royal for the Dracula Ballet Premier. I enjoyed everything - the setting, beautiful interior and good facilities, customer service excellence, not to mention that I am a ballet enthusiast and was very pleased that the Dracula came to Christchurch as part of their world tour. Five stars, highly recommended.

Went to see the ballet Dracula. It was superb. The dancing was passionate, artistic and powerful. Great telling of the classic story.

The most amazing experience at Blood Brothers 4pm Show on Sunday., the show was outstanding. Over and above that, was the extra attention given to me by a lovely usher , having very recently had a foot fracture and I was in a moonboot with crutches. Thank you Maggie for popping my crutches away under my seat for me and getting me a small pillow to put my leg on and also coming back at half time...

Last night Royal New Zealand ballet presents Firebird with my Brilliant careers. The ballet dancers dance beautiful and haven't been to the theatre 🎭 for long time since last I watch ballet when I was a teenager. Amazing ballet and nice theatre 🐦🔥🩰
