What makes it 65% Baby-Friendly: Babies can play on sand and ride in strollers on the gentle track, yet there is no dedicated changing table, limited shade and deep water close by, so carers need gear and vigilance.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with baby: A leisurely beach visit with playground time, a picnic and short walk fits well with feeding and nap breaks.
Beach & Blanket Play:
Lay a sun-shade blanket near the water’s edge.
Tip: Bring a lightweight shade tent and supervise baby close by to feel sand and shallow water safely.
Stroller-Friendly Coastal Walk:
Roll along the wide, gentle track from the car park down to the bay.
Tip: Use an all-terrain stroller and pause at lookout points for harbour views.
Pirate-Themed Playground:
Let your toddler climb and slide at the pirate-themed play area beside the car park.
Tip: Bring a hat and water; stay close to supervise safe play on slides and frames.
Picnic on Grassy Terraces:
Spread a blanket or use picnic tables on grassy tiers above the beach.
Tip: Pack soft snacks and formula in a cooler; pick a shaded spot near toilets.
Refreshment Treat:
Grab coffee or ice-cream from the seasonal van beside the beach.
Tip: Check van hours in summer; carry coins or EFTPOS for quick service.

We enjoyed a beautiful walk connecting the small bays along the coastal track. The trail was lively with many other hikers, and the little bays made perfect spots to pause and rest. With the wildflowers in bloom, it was a truly delightful walk.

Great place for a swim or a picnic with the family. Safe to swim.

A Beautiful little bay not so far from the city. Safe to take children and they will enjoy the place. There is a track if you want to walk and enjoy the view from the top. There are toilets and place to take a shower. Good parking during the week days. Its a walk down from the parking till the bay. Beach is full of tiny shells, so be careful.

I think very underrated place in Christchurch. It's near Lyttelton, I didn't know about this place before. I saw it from Mount Vernon Lookout. Very calm and beautiful place to spend some quality time. There is walking track along side of beach. Beach is not big but beautiful. Water colour is green which makes it picturesque. Eough parking. Totally recommended.

Beautiful reserve. The beach is good. There is a small nice playground for the kids and some tables for picnic. Toilets and fitting rooms are available, though dirty. There is a shower. The parking is quite large, but some wait may be necessary on sunny days. The path to Cass Bay, makes a nice walk.
In summer, the ice-cream van usually arrives late morning. Arrive early to secure parking and shaded picnic spots.
