What makes it 77% Baby-Friendly: Infants travel free and folded prams fit on larger cars, but there is no onboard change table and parents must rely on baby rooms at certain stops, so advance planning is required, lowering suitability a bit.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with baby: Allows the full 50-minute ride plus stops at Botanic Gardens and Riverside Market without rushing.
Complete the full tram circuit:
Enjoy the 50-minute narrated ride through central Christchurch.
Tip: Choose a larger tram for pram hooks and secure your folded stroller on the exterior hooks if needed.
Hop off at Botanic Gardens:
Stroll along flat, shaded paths ideal for a pram.
Tip: Use the tram’s pram hooks before disembarking and return when your baby is settled.
Stop at Riverside Market:
Browse level-entry food stalls and cafés under one roof.
Tip: Grab a light snack or coffee at a stall with stroller access before reboarding.

Took a tour around the city on the hop-on hop-off heritage tram. Plenty of city info and history told by our driver with a number of stops to get on and off from historical sites to museums etc. Worth staying in for a full circuit first to help get your Christchurch bearings before hopping off to visit places. Love an old tram.

Enjoyable 40 minute ride around central Christchurch which while modern and busy still has plenty of earthquake damage. The commentary is interesting but there's no translation available.

An hour to spend in the tram in the city is worthy. Tickets are full day hop on and off, so start from anywhere and then use the tram to visit different point of the city during the day. It is nice to keep the heritage tram operational. The main tram station in the Cathedral is very beautiful.

This is a must do activity in Christchurch. We initially thought we would go on a ride to sightsee and then continue with our day. Quirky thrill riding the trams through Christchurch. Book tickets online. Redeem at the starting point office. Hop on and off to your hearts-content. Most stop near points of interest or other attractions along the way. Worth it even if only for the thrill of joy-riding!
In summer, opt for open-air seats for breeze and views. In winter, sit inside and dress your baby in warm layers. Carry a rain cover for the pram in wet months.
