What makes it 57% Baby-Friendly: Ramps suit strollers and shady benches help with feeds, but there is no baby-change table or toilet on site, so carers must walk to Tūranga or a mall and stay alert by the river.
Why 1-2 hours visit duration is ideal for with baby: Enough time to stroll the terrace, rest on benches and enjoy the river without rushing with a baby.
Stroller-friendly terrace stroll:
Push your stroller along the gentle ramp and curved marble wall beside the Avon River.
Tip: Pause at shaded benches under maple trees to let your baby rest and enjoy the view.
Quiet feeding and rest break:
Use north-bank seating under large trees for a feeding or nappy-change stop.
Tip: Bring a small foldable change mat since there are no on-site baby-change facilities.
Grass-side mini picnic:
Spread a small blanket on the north-bank lawn for a picnic by the river.
Tip: Pack soft snacks and watch your baby crawl or tummy-time on the grass under supervision.

Beautifull relaxing place by the river. A must see place after your visit to The Quake museum.

This was a somber visit for me to pay respects for those that lost their lives in 2011. The memorial is absolutely stunning and beautifully laid out, focusing on the name wall for those that lost their lives.

I cannot begin to explain how the experience made me feel. A flood of emotions and memories of the Earthquake as I walked through. There are some really cool interactive areas for the kids to spark their interests and we could have easily spent the whole day there thanks to the lego table.

I arrived an hour before closing and there were about 10 guests before me just buying tickets. Thankfully not too long a wait still. Staff were very helpful and nice. I recommend 45min-1hr minimum

it was a strong memorial for those who passed during the 2011 quake. Just next to a meandering body of water made for an excellent stop to reflect and have a quiet moment to yourself. I thought it was very good urban design and planning to get it done the way it was. really loved the tranquillity.
In summer, visit early morning or late afternoon for cooler shade under trees. In winter, bundle your baby warmly and choose brighter parts of the day.
