What makes it 77% Kids-Friendly: Children enter free, can hunt for big Aztec sculptures, and staff offer kid worksheets, making history engaging. Stairs, sun-exposed ruins, and scarce hands-on displays may tire younger ones.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Enough time to explore both the museum galleries and outdoor ruins at a relaxed pace with children.
Explore the outdoor archaeological zone:
Walk among the original temple ruins and imagine the ancient Aztec city.
Tip: Kids under 13 enter free; bring water and let children spot carved stones.
Interact with large sculptures:
Visit the eight exhibit rooms featuring the Coyolxauhqui disk and Tlaloc monolith.
Tip: Use simple exhibit texts to quiz kids on what they see.
Family scavenger hunt:
Turn the visit into a game with the museum’s activity sheet.
Tip: Ask at the information desk for the free kids’ sheet on arrival.
Family-friendly guided tour:
Join a small-group tour tailored to all ages.
Tip: Book online in advance for an English or Spanish guide who engages children.
Use the cloakroom:
Store bags and free your hands to hold kids safely.
Tip: Drop off backpacks before heading to the stairs or narrow corridors.

While the entrance price has gone up for foreign visitors (now 210 pesos per person), it was still worth a visit. Yes, you can see the ruins from outside for free. However, going inside allows you to view the descriptions and explanations (most of them have both English and Spanish notes). There are also exhibitions that show interesting collections, such as the marine and land animal offerings to...

Not enough English guide. Very troublesome to translate everything into English. If you want visitors to better understand your history and culture, this should be done properly in common language. After the historical site, there are more to see in the museum. Don't miss it! This is truly an amazing place to visit (with or without the English guide).

Not sure this museum needs any more reviews! But it is, of course, a must visit for anyone new to CDMX. There is lots to see and it boggles the brain to see the literal layers of history across the site. Just make sure to plan for the weather as the outdoor area can get very hot in the sunshine and there is no cafe on site for a midway rest stop. It’s a bit of a marathon to see everything in one v...

Very interesting place from a historical standpoint. The temple structure is largely destroyed unfortunately, and it’s clear that ground settlement is taking a further toll. But it is cool that you can walk over/around it (on sidewalks with railing), unlike some other sites. The indoor portion of the museum is quite interesting, you could probably spend 1 - 1.5 hours there and cover it well. It’s...

We visited this museum without a guide and still found it very interesting and informative. There is signage in both English and Spanish. But some of the signage is in Spanish only. The museum was larger than I had expected and had great artifacts in it. It is amazing that this site is in the middle of such a large city.
Wear hats and sunscreen year-round. In rainy season (June–October), start indoors and carry a small umbrella for afternoon storms.
