How Kids-Friendly is Shinagawa Aquarium?

Kids up to 12 laugh at splashy dolphin and seal shows, handle budget-friendly fish feeding, and try the tickly Dr Fish pool; step-free paths and same-day re-entry aid restless energy, but some zones are dim.

Considerations for visiting Shinagawa Aquarium (with kids)

Positives:

  • Family-Friendly Facilities: Stroller ramps, diaper rooms, and nursing spaces make moving and breaks easy.
  • Interactive Learning: Keeper talks and feedings offer hands-on animal encounters for all ages.

Challenges:

  • Show Seating Fills Quickly: Arrive early for popular dolphin and seal shows or risk standing room only.
  • Extra Fees for Activities: Capsule spa, feeding tours, and some snacks require additional cost and limited spots.

Recommended visit duration: 2-3 hours

Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Enough time to see the tunnel, watch shows, do hands-on activities, and take breaks without rushing children.

Good indoor activity for kids. Dolphin show was particularly good, would have liked it to be slightly longer though ( 10 mins show around). Crowded across all seasons, i visited during summers and since the Dolphin show was outdoor, the wait for the show was difficult and draining. No options to eat so better carry your own snacks. Also there are discounts for folks residing or working in Shinagaw...

It's a small aquarium and it's crowded but they have many shows including a dolphin show, sea lion show and a diver swimming with the fishes and turtles in the tunnel aquarium. We visited on a Sunday afternoon and we got tickets from the vending machine without waiting in line. There's a ticket office with a person in there as well. The dolphin show was the first thing we saw and we found it very ...

Good for kids, my son enjoyed a lot especially dolphin show. Check the show timings in advance and plan accordingly. Car parking is convenient and there is huge park area outside with some ponds so you can relax if you have time especially after closing time 5PM.

Quite a small aquarium compared to the one in Nagoya. Most of the sea creatures seemed lethargic and overfed. One seal had eyes with cataract, it seemed odd to have white eyes. Penguins even had dead fishes strewn all over the floor. Dolphins did not look happy unlike the ones I’ve seen in Nagoya. The one shark seemed really bored and laid for a long time on the tank floor. Only the otters were hy...
