What makes it 68% Kids-Friendly: Children can turn the 27-gate walk into a counting game and pick fox charms, but uneven stone steps, no play zone, and basic toilets mean parents must supervise closely and keep visits short.
Why 1-2 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: This time lets families count gates, choose charms, make wishes, and enjoy a snack without rushing.
Gate-counting game:
Walk under all 27 red torii gates with your children.
Tip: Ask kids to call out each gate number to keep them engaged.
Choose child-sized omamori:
Let each child pick a protective charm at the shrine shop.
Tip: Look for health or school-success designs around 500–1,200 ¥.
Family make-a-wish:
Write wishes on fox talismans and tie them by the stone.
Tip: Buy one talisman per person (700 ¥ each) and pick a quiet spot.
Snack break at nearby café:
Walk to the family-friendly café at the hill’s base for soft-serve or udon.
Tip: Try the 600 ¥ soft-serve cone and rest before heading home.

The shrine is pretty but quite small. The path to go there is lined with Torii gates, which made it really mesmerising. It’s in a secluded area that’s quite hard to get to if you don’t have a car, and it was snowing really hard when we visited. We had to walk through the snowstorm to get there 😅 There was barely anyone else there, and we couldn’t write wishes or do much. All we did was pray to th...

Went during the end of winter, small walk up a hill to the main Shrine. Walk was slightly difficult due to the melting snow, but the atmosphere was extremely calming and beautiful

Sapporo Fushimi Inari Shrine is a charming, smaller version of Kyoto’s famous Fushimi Inari Shrine. It’s equally beautiful but much less crowded, offering a more peaceful experience. However, be aware that they’re strict about photography beyond the torii gates. You’ll need to ask for permission at the shrine office, which we did to respect the rules. Still, it’s a lovely spot to visit if you're l...

Please be respectful. There are at least two signs saying no photos inside the shrine and after the first tori gate. However that doesn't stop people being ugly and bringing in tripods trying to capture photos for their social media. This location is about 10 minutes walking from the bus stop ( uphill walk).
In winter, paths can be icy—wear boots with good grip. In spring and summer, look for Fushimi Marche stalls on weekends. Late afternoon in summer brings cooler shade under the gates.
