What makes it 75% Kids-Friendly: School-age children can watch exciting live glass-blowing and join bead or frame workshops, but fragile merchandise everywhere means parents must supervise closely to avoid breakage.
Why 1-2 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Allows time for browsing displays and a hands-on workshop without tiring young children.
Taisho-period glass gallery:
Walk through the restored stone warehouse to see vases, lamps and animal figurines from 1912–1926.
Tip: Kids enjoy spotting colorful shapes on the ground floor display; no entry fee.

Watch artisans shape molten glass in the workshop at 1,200 °C.
Tip: Ask staff for demo times and stand behind the guardrail to keep kids safe.
Glass bead making:
Children shape beads by winding colored glass on a mandrel without a torch.
Tip: Suitable for ages 5+; session takes about 15 minutes; book at reception.
Frame decoration workshop:
Attach small glass pieces to a photo frame or mirror.
Tip: Project lasts ~30 minutes; fees range ¥800–2,200 per person; great for all ages.

A small glass store selling local wares and also glass making lessons. The architecture is unique.

This is one of the many glass shops that you will find in Otaru. It has a nice and wide range of glass products - souvenir or otherwise - worth a visit.

It was more of a glass workshop than a museum for viewing. It was a lovely walk to see all these beautiful glass works. Just be careful while walking around

Great experience here. The glass master knows some English to effectively guide you to make your own glass. Can choose type and colour. Strongly recommended. All the staff is super friendly. Can ship back your glass for a fee too if you cannot collect 2 days later. You cannot collect immediately as need the glass to cool down properly.
Workshops fill up fast during summer school holidays and winter break. Call ahead to reserve slots. During Hokkaido winter, dress warmly for any outdoor queue.
