School-age children can watch exciting live glass-blowing and join bead or frame workshops, but fragile merchandise everywhere means parents must supervise closely to avoid breakage.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: 2–3 hours lets your family join one or two workshops and explore the galleries at a relaxed pace for kids.
Glass Bead Making:
Create your own torch-free 'tombodama' beads in the second-floor studio.
Tip: Book at reception on arrival; kids under 5 can join with parent help.
Frame Decoration Workshop:
Add colored glass pieces to a mirror or photo frame.
Tip: Pick bright colors to engage children; project takes about 30 minutes.
Live Glass-Blowing Demo:
Watch artisans shape molten glass at 1,200 °C through the workshop windows.
Tip: Stand behind the marked line and explain each step to spark curiosity.
Gallery Walk:
Explore Taishō-period lamps, vases, wind chimes and animal ornaments.
Tip: Let children spot shapes and colors; all displays are on the ground floor.

A small glass store selling local wares and also glass making lessons. The architecture is unique.

This is one of the many glass shops that you will find in Otaru. It has a nice and wide range of glass products - souvenir or otherwise - worth a visit.

It was more of a glass workshop than a museum for viewing. It was a lovely walk to see all these beautiful glass works. Just be careful while walking around

Great experience here. The glass master knows some English to effectively guide you to make your own glass. Can choose type and colour. Strongly recommended. All the staff is super friendly. Can ship back your glass for a fee too if you cannot collect 2 days later. You cannot collect immediately as need the glass to cool down properly.
