What makes it 61% Baby-Friendly: Aisles fit strollers and a diaper table plus nursing room are provided, yet the high density of fragile glass and hot furnaces means caregivers cannot relax and workshops are off-limits.
Why 1-2 hours visit duration is ideal for with baby: Enough time to browse the ground-floor gallery, watch a demo, and take a quick canal stroll without tiring your baby.
Browse Taisho-era glass gallery:
Stroll the ground floor of the 1906 stone warehouse to see Art Nouveau and Japanese-style pieces.
Tip: Wheel your stroller along the wide aisles to stay close to displays.
Watch live glass-blowing demo:
View artisans shaping molten glass through the workshop windows.
Tip: Ask reception for demo times and arrive a few minutes early for a good view.
Canal-side stroll:
Walk 1 minute to Otaru Canal for fresh air and photos with your baby.
Tip: In winter use non-slip stroller wheels and avoid icy patches near the water.

A small glass store selling local wares and also glass making lessons. The architecture is unique.

The store also had 2 amazing glass sculptures of samurai helmets when I went. I would have bought one if I felt I had enough space in my luggage. This is one of the many glass shops that you will find in Otaru. It has a nice and wide range of glass products - souvenir or otherwise - worth a visit.

It was more of a glass workshop than a museum for viewing. It was a lovely walk to see all these beautiful glass works. Just be careful while walking around

Great experience here. The glass master knows some English to effectively guide you to make your own glass. Can choose type and colour. Strongly recommended. All the staff is super friendly. Can ship back your glass for a fee too if you cannot collect 2 days later. You cannot collect immediately as need the glass to cool down properly.
Winter days are cold and icy around the canal—dress in layers and equip the stroller with non-slip wheels. Summer brings mild temperatures and bright sun—bring a hat and light cover for your baby.
