Kids get playgrounds, puppet shows, boat rides and festival stalls, with flat paths for scooters, but there are no thrill rides and ponds are unfenced so supervision is vital.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: This gives time for a boat ride, puppet show, playground, and a relaxed garden stroll without rushing kids.
Shobu Pond Boat Ride:
Rent a wooden boat and paddle around Shobu Pond.
Tip: Arrive by 10:00 to beat the weekend line. Kids can take turns steering.
Japanese Garden Walk:
Stroll through the landscaped Japanese Garden near the tea house.
Tip: Use the paved path to keep strollers moving smoothly.
Puppet Theatre Show:
Watch a 30–60 minute puppet show at Kogumaza children’s theatre.
Tip: Check the weekend schedule and buy tickets 30 minutes before showtime.
Playground & Children’s Hall:
Let kids play on slides, swings, and indoor equipment.
Tip: Pack extra socks for indoor play; shoes must be removed on mats.

Nakajima park is a large tranquil park in the middle of sapporo. Easily accessible, we went here on our last day for a chill morning stroll around. There was a light drizzle but still was comfortable. The air and views were refreshing and invigorating. There are also lots of cultural facilities and even hotels inside the park so this is an expansive park!

We absolutely loved this peaceful and vast park, especially the miniature Japanese garden within. There’s a large pond at the centre, many trees (labelled), beautiful flowers, sculptures, shrines, an observatory, a teahouse, a concert hall, a museum and more. This is a must-visit place when in Sapporo.

Locals leisurely stroll the paths and gather for peaceful picnics under the sakura trees- creating a gentle, unhurried atmosphere. The lake mirrors the blossoms beautifull...
