What makes it 72% Kids-Friendly: School-age children enjoy sweet fruit daifuku, takoyaki and ¥100 souvenirs; however, hot grills, dense foot traffic, and scarce seats demand close supervision and shorten stays.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: This gives time to sample snacks, explore stalls and rest without rushing young kids.
Fruit Daifuku at Mitoya:
Try soft mochi filled with seasonal fruits.
Tip: Kids love the chewy texture—order 1–2 flavors to share.
Melon Soft-Serve at MARU:
Half a melon topped with creamy soft-serve.
Tip: Grab seating inside the stall for a quick break.
Takoyaki at Wanaka:
Six bite-sized octopus balls hot off the grill.
Tip: Order one portion per kid and share extras with adults.
Okonomiyaki at Hananoki:
Savory cabbage pancake cooked to order.
Tip: Ask for mild sauce and cut into small pieces for kids.
100-Yen Souvenirs at Daiso:
Small toys, keychains and snacks.
Tip: Let each child pick one item to keep the budget fair.

A tourist trap…. Lots of food and fresh seafood. 2nd time as a tourist here. Last was years ago. The market is now more crowded with tourists and prices have gone up a lot. Lesser of other things to see besides food and more food. Certainly can get nice food with lesser crowd if you are in Tokyo.

A very interesting experience… we get to explore and try the food.. All the seafood is so huge in size! Look at all the raw food, oyster, sea urchins, king crab and more… All are so fresh too.. Nyam!

We stayed next door during our time in Osaka and ended up going to the market every day. There’s so much to try—fresh seafood, incredible Wagyu, cold beers, and great Japanese whiskey. It does get crowded, but it’s totally doable and part of the fun. We had the best time exploring and tasting something new each visit!

We visited Kuromon Ichiba Market on a Saturday afternoon after lunch. It wasn't too crowded, as many stalls were starting to close, but it was still a great experience! There are so many fresh seafood and local food options and the best part is that many stalls will prepare, cook, and serve the food to you right on the spot. Everything looked delicious and fresh. It would probably be even more l...

One of my favourite markets. You get a variety of food all in one place. I always come for sushi, strawberries and fresh seafood. Though this recent visit, a lot of stalls have changed and it’s more catered to tourists now. You’ll definitely have to walk around before you decide where you want to dine at.
Jan–Apr brings strawberry daifuku at Mitoya. Jun–Aug is peak melon season for MARU’s soft-serve. In autumn try fresh persimmons at juice stalls.
