School-age children enter cheaply and can move between bright courtyard and galleries, yet fragile artworks and few interactive exhibits mean parents must guide and limit visit length.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: This time lets your family see key exhibits and enjoy a park picnic at a relaxed pace.
Walk the Glass Ribbon Entrance:
Explore the modern glass corridor and courtyard space.
Tip: Let kids spot reflections in the glass and use it for creative photos.
View Collection Room Exhibits:
Discover Japanese and Western paintings from the Meiji era to 1990.
Tip: Choose one special exhibit and read the short captions aloud to engage young minds.
Use the Modakuro Audio-Guide:
Play the quiz-style audio tour for fun facts about the architecture.
Tip: Download the 35-minute course on your phone before you arrive.
Picnic in Okazaki Park:
Enjoy take-out from café ENFUSE on the museum terrace or grass by the pond.
Tip: Bring a light blanket and let kids run safely on the park lawns.
Browse ART RECTANGLE KYOTO Shop:
Find art books, design goods, and original sweets in the museum store.
Tip: Set a small souvenir budget and let each child pick one item.

Saw the current Kusama exhibition. Incredible. We bought our tickets online, same day, and had no wait.

It was such an honor to visit KYOCERCA Museum of art. What a gorgeous exhibition. I’ve always wanted to see Yayoi Kusama and I finally had the privilege of doing so. Absolutely stunning. Kyoto is a brilliant city.

Visited for Monet’s works. There were more pieces than I expected. However, photos are only allowed in one area, which includes just a few paintings. There’s also a shop at the end with lots of souvenirs.

"You must know I'm entirely absorbed in my work. These landscapes of water and reflections have become an obsession. It's quite beyond my powers at my age, and yet I want to succeed in expressing what I feel. I've destroyed some... I start others... and I hope that something will come out of so much effort" ---Claude Monet wrote to his friend Gustave Geffroy in 1908

We went to see the Claude Monet exhibition which was really stunning. So much to offer and so much to see. We also walked around the lovely grounds and pond behind the museum which had wisteria and fish. A really peaceful place and clearly hosting serious exhibitions and serious artwork. Would love to come back and highly recommend it as an activity with family or friends or couples.
