Kids 7–12 get discounted seats and will like puppets and vivid dance, yet they must stay silent for 50 minutes and there is no stroller space, play area, or child-friendly restroom gear.
Why 1-2 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: One performance lasts about 50 minutes. Adding time for seating and displays keeps kids engaged without wearing them out.
Watch the seven-art program:
See Kyoto dance, tea ceremony, koto, gagaku, kyogen and bunraku in one show.
Tip: Reserve aisle seats so children can move and see the stage clearly.
Explore the maiko display:
View hairpins, costumes and behind-the-scenes videos on stage crafts.
Tip: Arrive 15 minutes early to browse before doors close.
Post-show maiko photo (winter):
Take a free photo with a maiko after select winter performances.
Tip: Plan your visit between Dec 1 and Mar 13 and bring a small gift to ask politely.
Matcha & wagashi upgrade:
Enjoy freshly prepared matcha tea and Japanese sweets during the tea ceremony segment.
Tip: Book the tea & sweets seat option if your kids enjoy trying new treats.

Nice performance to get acquainted with some Japanese traditions and culture. I really appreciated the translation device given cause it made it easy for me to understand what is exactly happening on the stage and what’s the history behind it. I think it’s a good place to visit if you’d like something different from sightseeing.

Beautiful but extremely crowded area. The temples are beautiful and the crowds thin out a bit the further uphill you wander but the amount of people and stalls and shops diminishes the natural beauty there. Make sure to wear good shoes in this area!

Very good experience Short snipit of each skill/art Enjoyed tea service as well worth buying those 2 seats. No photos allowed in show

Please don’t take photos of the locals. There are many foreigners who dress up like them so taking photos of the look-alike is much more respectful of the locals.

The show was sold out, so purchasing in advanced is a must. The f...
