What makes it 79% Solo-Friendly: A solo traveler can quietly bird-watch, photograph 1,700 wetland plants with clear English labels, and finish the one-hour loop by bus, making it a relaxed, self-paced outing with few practical obstacles.
This place may be temporarily closed. Please check official sources before visiting.
Why 1-2 hours visit duration is ideal for solo trip: This gives you time to walk the full loop, study key wetland plants, and pause for birdwatching without rushing.
Self-guided plant study:
Collect the free English leaflet at the entrance and identify wetland, fen, bog, and alpine plants in their natural zones.
Tip: Use the map legend to match plant names and note differences in leaf shapes and habitats.
Early-morning birdwatching:
Walk the boardwalk at dawn to spot local waterfowl, dragonflies, and small mammals near streams and ponds.
Tip: Bring binoculars and stay silent along the Okawa stream area for the best sightings.
Sketching in the alpine garden:
Find a bench among the alpine bloom patches to draw or journal the unique mountain species.
Tip: Pack a small sketchbook and fine-line pen to capture delicate flower details.
Photo-hunting seasonal blooms:
Time your visit to peak blooms like Japanese primrose in spring or lilies in summer.
Tip: Check bloom calendars online and aim for mid-May to June for vivid iris displays.
Guided nature walk tour:
Join a small-group English tour to learn expert insights on flora and ecology.
Tip: Book in advance; tours cost about ¥6,000 and include garden admission and binoculars.

Beautiful and relaxing walk in nature. Feels like being in Princess Mononoke in real life. We saw lots of fish in the water. We loved this.

Beautiful and unique botanical garden. Well signed, science focused, and very peaceful. I look forward to visiting again in a different season.

Loved this place! It was so beautiful with lots of birds and lizards. The wildflowers were stunning in the natural scenery. There was a fantastic carnivorous plant exhibit while I was there. You can spend a lot of time exploring the environments. Great if you love nature and plants. The store has some cute merch and good soft serve.

If you’re into plants or nature person, then recommend! Depending on the season, there are different flowers blooming. They have few carnival plants, which was cool. Entrance 700 yen.

Went during light shower rain but that made it even better! Staff were kind, ticket buying process was easy, you can park in the car park nearby for free. Not many flowers when I went, but you see many crawdads, a carnivorous plants section, and can walk around 7 more sections of different themes(swamp, wetlands etc). There is a little shop there too for cute bits and bobs.
Spring brings skunk cabbage and katakuri in March–April; iris and primrose peak in May–June; autumn foliage colors the wetlands in October.
