What makes it 78% Couple-Friendly: Couples get a free, photogenic waterfall with foliage and fireflies for a romantic pause; the lack of lighting, toilets, or cafés is bearable for a brief visit but still a drawback.
Why 1 hour visit duration is ideal for couple trip: The flat 10-minute trail and viewing deck can be fully enjoyed in about one hour by couples
Quiet waterfall stroll:
Walk the Taishō-era deck to see dozens of thin streams cascading over mossy rock.
Tip: Start at Kowakudani Station and follow the flat 10-minute path; pause at the center deck at golden hour for soft backlit photos
Seasonal foliage viewing:
Admire spring greens, summer leaves, or fiery autumn maples around the falls.
Tip: Visit in late April for fresh cherry blossoms or mid-November for peak maple colors; use the side benches to relax
Firefly evening visit:
In early July, watch fireflies dancing above the thousand water threads at dusk.
Tip: Arrive 30 minutes before sunset; bring a dim red flashlight to avoid disturbing the insects
Picnic by the falls:
Enjoy snacks at picnic tables set near the waterfall viewing area.
Tip: Pack easy-to-eat items and a small blanket; carry out all trash to keep the site pristine

(As of Oct 2025) Ultimately found the waterfall with AllTrails. See pictures - 1, 2) get to the location at the blue dot on map, 3) will see a sign pointing to the falls, 4) first part of walk is next to a construction area on the left and hotels on the right, 5) then will see the sign in middle of the trail and go into the forest, 6) should arrive at falls within 5 minutes

YOU CAN STILL VISIT THE FALLS!! Only one entrance closed! (Probably because the owner of the private land got sick of disrespectful tourists 🙃) Head down Chisujinotaki St in front of the Mikawaya Ryokan. It is a beautiful short walk with a small but gorgeous falls!

Look for the building/sign in photo with "parking" on it. Follow the road, will pass white chisuji sign. Keep going down main path until you see the wooden sign with 5 on it (see photo), then go down that t...

The walk back was a bit intense in one neighborhood carrying a 25-pound toddler up a steep hill, but it was brief. We caugh...
Spring brings cherry blossoms and bright greens; autumn offers fiery maple hues. In early July, arrive at dusk to spot fireflies above the falls.
