What makes it 83% Kids-Friendly: Elevator access, ball pool, costume corner and free arcade let 4-12 year-olds stay busy indoors, and fireworks in summer thrill them; only brief historical displays may bore them after 90 minutes.
Why 2–3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Allows time to explore exhibits, play in the basement, dress up, soak in the footbath and enjoy a snack without rushing.
Panoramic Observation Deck:
Climb to the top floor for a 360° view of Atami City, Sagami Bay and nearby islands.
Tip: Visit on a clear day and bring a camera to capture island views.
Basement Play Zone:
Let kids burn off energy on the bouldering walls, ball pool and table tennis tables.
Tip: Bring clean socks for the play area and supervise younger children at all times.
Edo Costume Photo Corner:
Dress up as samurai or princess and pose inside the castle.
Tip: Arrive early to avoid lines and bring a wipe to clean costumes after play.
Jet Footbath:
Soak your feet together while looking out over Hatsushima and the Izu Peninsula.
Tip: Towels are provided. Teach kids to enter slowly—water can be hot at first.
Castle Museum Exhibits:
Browse authentic samurai armor, swords and detailed castle models.
Tip: Use the English labels to explain artifacts to children in simple terms.

We really enjoyed all of the model's and history of japanese castles. The views are stunning. Taking the rope way up is very unique. Skip the 3rd floor folks...If there's a trap... it's this one

Visiting atami you Must have to visit the castle , nice experience and good exhibition in the first floors , the rooftview is breathtaking . You can visit it alone or in groups , although please take the bus from the station since in holidays the buses will not make stops in between making it more difficult for access.

Even though it's an old Japanese-style castle, I wondered why the inside wasn't cramped, and it seems to be because the building was constructed in 1958. Floors 1 to 5 are museums, and the 6th floor is an observation deck. The first basement floor had a free arcade, which I really liked because unlike the arcades outside where you have to insert a coin every time you die in a game, here you could ...

This place was built solely for the purpose of sucking in tourists. For eleven months, I have been looking at it from my balcony on the other side of the harbor. This morning, I peddled my bicycle up there. It was good exercise and little else.

The view from this tourist castle is nice. And the samurai museum is cool. But remember this was created I the 1950's to attract tourists so it's not a real castle. There's plenty of parking if you drive right up to the castle.
Late March–early April offers cherry blossoms around the castle grounds. Summer (July–August) features fireworks displays visible from the tower. Cooler months make the footbath especially cozy.
