Children can play on the sand and join beginner surf lessons, but parents must monitor tides, there is no playground or lifeguard, toilets are basic, and shade or seating is limited.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Allows time to play on the beach, take photos under the torii gate, and enjoy a picnic without rushing.
Low-tide Beach Play:
Kids can build sandcastles and splash in shallow water when the tide is out.
Tip: Check local tide charts and go 1–2 hours before low tide for safest play area.
Torii Gate Photos:
Walk out to the white torii gate framed by the Couple Stones at low tide.
Tip: Arrive 30 minutes before low tide to find a clear path and best light for pictures.
Sunset Viewing:
Watch the sun dip between the Husband and Wife Rocks from the beach.
Tip: Get there 20–30 minutes before sunset and bring a small blanket to sit on.
Kids’ Surf Lesson:
Beginner surf lessons include board and wetsuit for ages 7–12.
Tip: Book in advance with Mission Surf and arrive 15 minutes early to fit gear.
Child Bicycle Rental:
Ride along the coastal Sunset Road on child-size bikes.
Tip: Rent at Thalia Coffee for ¥500 per child; helmets included.

Truly one of the highlights of Itoshima. The location right by the beach makes it feel special and the views are absolutely beautiful. It can get busy, but the atmosphere is still calm and peaceful once you’re inside the shrine area. There are plenty of little shops and food stalls nearby, which makes exploring the area even more enjoyable. If you’re visiting Itoshima, this is definitely one of th...

Just a couple of minutes away from Hakata Station. Easily accessible by bus or a combination of train and bus. Got here at around 9am, and is not yet packed with tourists. There are two restaurants near...

Lots of tourists and cafes around. You may find restaurants that are equally nice than the popular seafood restaurant. Overall it’s a very nice and chill beach which resembles Hawaii/ Australia 😊 Do note that everywhere requires parking fee.
