Children can use the multi-age playground, short way-marked trails, ball pitches, and family orienteering, with free parking and nearby toilets ensuring a convenient and safe half-day visit.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Gives enough time for playground play, a short woodland walk and a picnic without rushing young kids.
Playground Fun:
Try the embankment slide, climbing units, flat swings and toddler multi-unit.
Tip: Arrive midday for cooler, shaded play and pack a change of clothes.
Woodland Paths:
Follow waymarked trails through trees with benches for breaks.
Tip: Wear sturdy shoes; bring water and snacks for short rest stops.
Family Orienteering:
Explore the woods with a map-and-compass course designed for families.
Tip: Book the €20 family ticket online before your visit to secure your slot.
Picnic by the Playground:
Use the picnic tables beside the play area for easy supervision.
Tip: Bring reusable plates and snacks to save time and reduce waste.
Indoor Sports Hall:
Play basketball or badminton in the community centre hall.
Tip: Book at least a week in advance at €25 per hour.
In summer, shade from mature trees keeps the playground cool. After rain, trails get muddy—pack boots or wellies. In spring, picnic among wildflowers; in autumn, enjoy colorful leaves.

Cappagh Park is a lovely, well-maintained green space—perfect for walking, jogging, or a family outing. Great playground for kids, peaceful trails, and plenty of open areas. Clean, safe, and a great escape within the city. Highly recommended!

Wonderful, what a fabulous wood in the middle of Galway A great place for children to explore. Lots of trails. The children reckon they heard and saw an owl inside a hollowed out tree. Great photo opportunities. Loved this place.
