Firm sand suits strollers and gentle toddling, lifeguards patrol, but no nursing room or change table, little shade, and wind can be strong, so parents must bring gear and monitor weather.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with baby: Enough time to stroll, sand play, rinse off and rest without tiring the baby.
Gentle beach stroll:
Walk along the firm sand with your stroller on the west end of the beach.
Tip: Start near the lifeguard hut for a flat path and a safe distance from waves.
Sand play near the water:
Let your baby sit on a picnic blanket in shallow, calm sand for supervised play.
Tip: Bring a portable shade and change mat for quick diaper checks.
Rinse off with outdoor showers:
Use the free showers by the car park to clean off salt and sand before heading home.
Tip: Check if showers are on; they may be switched off during water-saving measures.
Coffee & snacks at beach huts:
Grab a warm drink and light snack from The Silver Surfer or Wandering Bean.
Tip: Order takeaway and sit on a nearby picnic bench to keep an eye on your baby.
Visit June to August for lifeguard patrols. Showers run unless in drought. Early mornings are cooler and less crowded.

Very disappointed with the toilet facilities. From the beach it looks 👌 but close up it's horrendous 😕 Could easily do with a link paint and maybe more modern toilets

Absolutely stunning beach in West Cork! The scenery is breathtaking – golden sands, clear waters, and plenty of space to relax or go for a swim. It's well looked after, and there was a really peaceful atmosphere during our visit. There’s convenient parking nearby, which made access really easy, and the toilet facilities were clean and well-maintained – a definite plus.

Came during a low tide, interesting rock formations. Very exposed to the wind so bring a jacket and hat. My only negative would be that there is only one bathroom stall/men & women’s bathroom and there were a couple of school busses full of school kids wanting to change (but there are no changing areas). Cold outdoor shower to rinse off. There is a list of dog breeds that are not allowed on the be...

We spent some time dabating which beach to visit in this area but we're pleased we chose this one. As others have noted, the key is to visit at low tide. Then you have a large expanse of sand, rock pools and plenty of space. It was pretty quiet mid-week in May when we visited. There is plenty of parking on the road which runs alongside the beach. There are (rather disgusting) toilets just a minu...
