Couples can share audio guides, take photos together among frescoes, and the small size fits a date before a sunset stroll, but limited seating reduces lingering time.
Why 1-2 hours visit duration is ideal for couple trip: Couples can explore the full exhibition and enjoy on-site workshops without rushing.
Follow the chronological tour:
Walk the second-floor exhibits from Neolithic tools to Cycladic figurines.
Tip: Grab the free brochure and read panels in English to link each era.
Admire the Spring Fresco and gold ibex:
View the vibrant wall painting and the rare gold goat statuette.
Tip: Head here first to avoid midday crowds and capture photos with soft light.
Join a hands-on workshop:
Try fresco drawing or pottery reconstruction in rotating first-floor workshops.
Tip: Ask at the desk on arrival about today’s complimentary workshop schedule.
Use a smartphone audio guide:
Scan QR codes for narrated stories via apps like Smartify.
Tip: Download before you arrive to save data and ensure full playback.
Capture a sunset view:
Step outside for the Holy Island sunset from the museum’s terrace.
Tip: Arrive 30 minutes before sunset for a front-row spot.
In summer the museum offers a cool afternoon break; in winter confirm opening hours as they may shorten. Check online for seasonal exhibitions before you visit.

Very good. Being indoors was a bonus so you're not in the sun! Found out afterwards that you can buy a ticket which includes the museum in Fira but the cost isn't too much when buying separately. Staff were very friendly. Unfortunately when we visited we were not able to walk between the ruins due to the earthquakes earlier in the year and the possibility of more but still an amazing visit.

It was a very nice and different activity to do in Thera. Well kept and interesting exhibits. Nice building overall. If you are a uni student in Greece, you can enter for free or if you are 25 and under. Great place!

Very nice exhibition. You can see and try to imagine how life in ancient Greece looked like. Exhibition is not big but worth seeing.

Fascinating museum that we went to the day after going to Akrotiri and so so saw the artifacts and wall paintings that were found at that site and referred to in the information boards around the site. Beautiful things, their homes must have been stunning - or at least those of the better off. The museum shows them off really well. Not huge - took us around an hour - but well worth seeing. Pu...

It was very interesting. The best part was seeing how modern day Santorini is influenced by prehistoric designs. Lots of information and takes around 1.5 hours to get through. Was €10 in April 2025 and the value was good for what we saw and experienced. Would definitely recommend to learn about history of island.
