Fira to Oia Walk (couple trip)

Fantastic experience and a must do when visiting Santorini, but it was a bit harder than we anticipated even as strong hikers! It’s a very exposed route so bring extra water and sunscreen, and don’t forget a hat.

It is a relative easy terrain to walk between Fira and Oia. What makes it difficult, is the high heat, and the blazing sun (~35 degrees C at the end of July). The lenght is around 6-6.5 km. Be sure to put on shoes (running or hiking shoes), because the terrain sometimes is rocky and slippery sometimes gravel and pebbles. Dont start the track in flip-flops. Put on a hat, and take suncream with you....

Best think we did in Santorini - left Fira at 7am and arrived in to Oia at around 9.30am. I’m not particularly fit but found this hike to be easy enough - a few steep parts, a few rocky descents. One of the best hikes I have ever done. Plenty of elevation changes, views, and places to rest along the way. It felt very natural and authentic, and with the beautiful weather it was not painful by any means. We did not stop for rests and were keeping a good pace, and completed it in 2.5 hours. This is a stunning and peaceful walk/hike. Highly recommended to spend a day doing this and visiting Oia to see the famous blue domes. Are there toilets? Yes, there is a toilet along the way - if you follow the coast the whole way and go via the Church of Prophet Elias. It is a long drop toilet but is enclosed for privacy.
