Six-seat enclosed gondolas let children safely spot boats and cliffs; free or reduced fares help families, but hot, slow queues and no play zone may cause boredom and discomfort.
Why 1-2 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Allows time for up-and-down rides, boat-spotting game, and a gelato break.
Cable Car Ascent:
Ride from the old port up to Fira in three minutes.
Tip: Arrive before 9 am to reduce wait times when cruise ships dock.
Boat-Spotting Game:
Keep kids engaged by counting cruise ships and fishing boats in the caldera.
Tip: Bring simple tally cards or encourage kids to name each boat.
Panoramic Photo Stop:
Step onto the Fira station deck for sweeping views of white-washed cliffs.
Tip: Use the soft morning light for brighter photos without harsh shadows.
Gelato Treat:
Enjoy fresh flavors like mango and berries at Yes Cafe, 50 m from the station.
Tip: Try smaller scoops first so kids can sample more flavors.
In summer, ride early to avoid heat and long queues. In shoulder seasons, check operating hours as schedules vary.

I cannot sit backwards and staff even not bothered to listen … so what you will do if I faint inside the car? though team in the cash desk are nice and polite giving 5 stars only because I work myself in hospitality and not fair of one person to put all experience as bad you can pay card and cash one way

We were there on a day with two large cruise ships and ours was an hour late arriving. The lineup was not that bad, probably a 20min wait which is quicker than walking up the hill. We did walk d...

Lovely views of La caldera…. I took the steps going down to the harbour was a big mistake, so my plan was to take back the cable car was the best decision ever. I think is a bit expensive for time of the ride. 2 mins €6, queues can be up to 2 hours if you have a cruise mooring in Santorini. The old harbour is small you will expect to be crowded. But I was lucky I took the cable car around 5.30pm...
