Infants ride free, a folded stroller fits, and top-station toilets reportedly have change space, yet noise, crowding, and little shade during waits make the short ride less baby-friendly.
Why 1-2 hours visit duration is ideal for with baby: Includes queue time, the 3-minute ride, viewing deck stop, and a quick station visit with a baby break.
Cable Car Ride:
Take the 3-minute gondola from the old port up to Fira.
Tip: Board early with a folded stroller to avoid long lines and heat.
Boat-Spotting Game:
Point out cruise ships and fishing boats in the caldera during the ascent.
Tip: Ask your baby to point at colors to keep them entertained.
Viewing Deck Break:
Step outside the top station for panoramic Aegean Sea and cliff views.
Tip: Use on-site restrooms with changing tables before exploring Fira.
Port-to-Town Shortcut:
Skip the 588 stairs or donkey paths by using the cable car.
Tip: Enjoy the faster, smoother ride with your stroller on a flat cabin floor.
In summer, ride before 9 am to avoid heat and long waits. In winter, call ahead for adjusted operating hours linked to cruise arrivals.

staff rude and not helpful who guides you to the cars .. I cannot sit backwards and staff even not bothered to listen … so what you will do if I faint inside the car? though team in the cash desk are nice and polite giving 5 stars only because I work myself in hospitality and not fair of one person to put all experience as bad you can pay card and cash one way

Lovely views of La caldera…. I took the steps going down to the harbour was a big mistake, so my plan was to take back the cable car was the best decision ever. I think is a bit expensive for time of the ride. 2 mins €6, queues can be up to 2 hours if you have a cruise mooring in Santorini. The old harbour is small you will expect to be crowded. But I was lucky I took the cable car around 5.30pm...
