A solo traveler can swim safely under lifeguard watch, try affordable water-sports, use free showers and parking, and relax on quiet stretches, but aircraft noise slightly reduces serenity.
Why 3-4 hours visit duration is ideal for solo trip: Gives time to swim, explore the river estuary, and catch sunset plane-spotting.
Swim and snorkel:
Enter the gently sloping sea to swim and spot small fish among rocks.
Tip: Bring or rent a snorkel mask to explore clearer underwater views.
Plane-spotting:
Stand at the western end to watch aircraft land against the beach backdrop.
Tip: Use a telephoto lens or smartphone zoom near sunset for dramatic shots.
Estuary nature walk:
Walk east to the Karteros River mouth to see birds and native plants.
Tip: Wear water-resistant shoes and go early for calmer water and active wildlife.
Windsurfing lessons:
Join a certified instructor on the beach for windsurfing or kitesurfing.
Tip: Reserve your spot before 11:00 when winds build for better conditions.
June–August meltemi winds can make the sea choppy by midday but fuel windsurfing. For calmer water and fewer people, visit before 11:00 or after 17:00.

No sunbeds were free and we would have had to put our names on a waiting list and most likely we would have had to wait for at least an hour. The beach itself is nice but I highly recommend bringing your own umbrella.

Very nice and semi wild beach. Slow entrance into the sea. No steps or something. Ideal for small kids. You can walk 50m from the shoreline and the water is knee deep

Overall a good beach close to heraklion airport. It has a bar, 6€ for 2 sunbeds, prices for drinks are decent. If the weather is not great you can walk and see the planes landing

Nice and clean beach, not to busy. It is a free of entry beach. Enough space, and a few nice and kind of different beach clubs. Chears and umbrellas not expensive, from so 4 euro. Perfect for plane spotting and taking pictures of landing planes.

Great sandy beach near Heraklio with sunbeds, showers, locker rooms, bar and music. Easy to reach by local bus or by car, free parking available with lots of space. As a bonus you have a perfect plane spotting location, planes landing every 5 minutes.
