School-age children can build sandcastles on clean soft sand, splash in shallow water with lifeguards, and visit nearby sports courts, but there is no playground and jet noise may annoy some kids.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Gives time for swimming, sand play, and a snack without tiring young kids.
Build Sandcastles:
Use the firm golden sand to create castles and moats.
Tip: Bring your own buckets and shovels or rent toys from a beach bar.
Swim in Shallow Waters:
Enjoy the gently sloping seabed with on-duty lifeguards.
Tip: Choose a spot near the lifeguard station and use float jackets.
Family Kayak or Paddleboard:
Rent a tandem kayak or SUP for a fun family water adventure.
Tip: Ask the vendor about age limits and fit all life vests before heading out.
Plane-Spotting Photos:
Watch small aircraft land at nearby Heraklion airport from the shore.
Tip: Go in the afternoon for the most flight activity and clear light.
Visit Cretaquarium:
Drive 5 minutes to explore marine life and interactive exhibits.
Tip: Buy tickets online in advance to skip the line.
Arrive before 10 AM in July–August to avoid crowds and peak sun. Lifeguards patrol May–September. Shoulder months (May, October) offer cooler temperatures and fewer visitors.

No sunbeds were free and we would have had to put our names on a waiting list and most likely we would have had to wait for at least an hour. The beach itself is nice but I highly recommend bringing your own umbrella.

Very nice and semi wild beach. Slow entrance into the sea. No steps or something. Ideal for small kids. You can walk 50m from the shoreline and the water is knee deep

Overall a good beach close to heraklion airport. It has a bar, 6€ for 2 sunbeds, prices for drinks are decent. If the weather is not great you can walk and see the planes landing

Nice and clean beach, not to busy. It is a free of entry beach. Enough space, and a few nice and kind of different beach clubs. Chears and umbrellas not expensive, from so 4 euro. Perfect for plane spotting and taking pictures of landing planes.

Great sandy beach near Heraklio with sunbeds, showers, locker rooms, bar and music. Easy to reach by local bus or by car, free parking available with lots of space. As a bonus you have a perfect plane spotting location, planes landing every 5 minutes.
