The 5 – 6 km pier walk gives free exercise, open sea views, art walls, benches and mid-pier toilets, so a lone visitor gains scenery and safety as long as sun, wind and footwear are considered.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for solo trip: Allows time for the 5–6 km round-trip walk, self-guided history stops, and a coffee break
Mindful Pier Walk:
Walk the 3 km breakwater at a steady pace to clear your mind.
Tip: Start at sunrise or late afternoon to avoid peak sun and crowds.
Self-Guided History Dive:
Read the Venetian and Ottoman harbor defense plaques along the mole.
Tip: Bring a phone flashlight to read plaques in low light or shadow.
Sketching & Journaling:
Set up at a bench mid-pier or at the lighthouse base to draw or write.
Tip: Carry a lightweight sketchbook and pencil for easy packing.
Eco-Bike Harbor Tour:
Join an electric-bike loop that covers city walls, the pier, and the fortress.
Tip: Book in advance (€35–€40) with a local guide to learn hidden history.
Coffee at Koules Fortress Café:
Enjoy a coffee or slush on the fortress ramparts with sea views.
Tip: Pair with a snack and watch the pier you just walked for context.
In summer, start early or late to beat heat. In winter, wear windproof layers due to strong sea breezes.

If you tried a walk on the high dam against the sea and felt thrilling, holy and enjoyable, believe me you are not alone. Take a walk on the wall is dangerous, but with your life risking and the same time obsessed with unstoppable sea view, I think it can be considered an experience.

In fact, it is at the end of a long pier. You come to this place when you want to get to the end of the pier, not knowing its length. And its length is approximately 3 km. Therefore, you will have to walk about 3 km one way, keep this in mind. It is a beautiful walk along the sea. Some people ride a bike, some walk, it is beautiful, picturesque, healthy.

It's only good for workout, I think light house is simple and small, but I enjoyed more the view of the sea, the port of Heraklion along the walk, so yes I give 5 stars still !

Nice walk to the light beacon. It's not really a light house, just a light on a pole. It's a 2.3km walk in each direction. There are toilets half way, and some art on the sea wall at places along the route

If you have 2-3 hours left in the early evening on your tour don't miss out on this one. The view and scenery are simply beautiful. While we sat on the walls, rested from the ~2km walk to the lighthouse and enjoyed the earthing and calming view, sailing boats returned to harbour while the sun was going down. It's these moments that make a day unforgettable.
