Children can watch the dancing water, run on wide paving, and get ice cream nearby, yet there are no toilets, play gear, or shade, and wet edges may be slippery for active kids.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Allows time for games, snacks, exploring nearby arcade and playground without rushing children.
Lion Counting Game:
Count all eight lion heads around the fountain.
Tip: Turn it into a timed challenge for extra fun.
Bougatsa Snack at a Café:
Enjoy cream-filled phyllo pies at cafés next to the fountain.
Tip: Order four small pastries so each child has one.
Watch Street Performers:
See jugglers or magicians near the basin in early evening.
Tip: Bring small coins so kids can tip performers directly.
Visit the Venetian Loggia:
Walk 3 minutes east to the shaded arcade of the Loggia Town Hall.
Tip: Use the arcade benches for a cool rest and photo stop.
Play at Georgiadis Park:
Head 7 minutes south to find swings and a sandbox.
Tip: Check park opening hours locally before you go.
Summer afternoons can be very hot; visit before 10 AM or after 5 PM. Spring and autumn offer milder weather.

Toni Mela
The area is kind of dirty and in a bit poor shape. Only the center part of the fountain is in use. Not really worth a visit at least in daytime, but maybe it looks better in the dark.

Liveyourmyth World
This is a go to place in Heraklion. There are even bike lanes in the city which is really helpful, especially for cyclists like us. This is also a very good place to hang out and offers a stunning view of the horizon.
Vasilis Papamichalis
Part of the coastal walkway of Heraklion with a place for skateboards and open space for kids (and adults) to play. The fountain is very nicely lit during the night adding value to the promenade. It can get very cold during winter nights so dress accordingly but is very pleasant during summer nights.
