Parents can roll a stroller onto the flat paving and rest on shaded benches, but there are no changing tables or nursing rooms, so any diaper or feeding break relies on nearby cafés.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with baby: Allows time for strolling, snacks and stroller breaks.
Explore Kornarou Square:
Walk around the pedestrian square and admire the fountain’s coats of arms and Roman statue.
Tip: Visit early or late to avoid crowds and heat for smoother stroller access.
Shaded Rest Stop:
Use the benches and shaded areas near the fountain to rest or feed your baby.
Tip: Bring a changing pad and water-resistant mat for comfort.
Café Pit Stop:
Grab a drink or snack at the Sebil café next to the fountain and use customer restrooms.
Tip: Buy a coffee (€3–€6) to access the restroom; staff can help with diaper changes.
In summer, come before 10 AM or after 5 PM to beat the heat. In spring and autumn, mild weather makes mid-day visits comfortable.

Unfortunately, the Bembo Fountain turned out to be a huge disappointment. The place is very neglected and poorly maintained. The area around the fountain smells of urine, and it is very dirty and covered in bird droppings. It's sad to see such a historic site in such a state. It's definitely not worth visiting in its current state.

Beautiful location, graffiti everywhere stinks off urine.
Tomas Tichopad
Beautiful place with lot of tourist local taverns.

It's a late medieval (Venetian) fountain that's worth a quick look but nothing really special. The figurine is interesting, possibly older than the fountain. Can be found at the top of the market.

This recently popped up in my timeline and I had no idea it was a historic fountain in Crete. I was simply enjoying an elderly gentleman feeding the pigeons in the heart of Heraklion. As you can see, I was more entranced by the local than I was the fountain but had I known I would have inspected it more closely.
