Pairs can take romantic photos, share a coffee at the adjacent Sebil café, and start a walking tour from the square, but limited activities mean the stop lasts only a short time.
Why 1-2 hours visit duration is ideal for couple trip: enough time for a photo shoot, audio tour and a coffee or sunset drink without rushing
Historic Photo Shoot:
Pose with the 16th-century marble fountain as your backdrop.
Tip: Visit early to avoid crowds and capture soft morning light.
Self-guided Audio Tour:
Use the free MyTours app to hear stories about Venetian coats of arms and the headless statue.
Tip: Download the guide before you arrive to save mobile data.
Coffee Date at Sebil Café:
Order traditional Greek coffee in the former Ottoman fountain kiosk.
Tip: Sit on the stone benches to watch square life unfold.
Sunset Wine or Raki:
Sip local wine or raki at a nearby café as evening lights highlight the fountain.
Tip: Arrive 30 minutes before sunset for the best view and cooler air.
Food & History Walk:
Join a small-group walking tour starting at the fountain to taste Cretan specialties.
Tip: Book online in advance to guarantee a spot in a small group.
In summer, plan your visit early morning or around sunset to beat the heat and enjoy golden light on the fountain.

Unfortunately, the Bembo Fountain turned out to be a huge disappointment. The place is very neglected and poorly maintained. The area around the fountain smells of urine, and it is very dirty and covered in bird droppings. It's sad to see such a historic site in such a state. It's definitely not worth visiting in its current state.

Beautiful location, graffiti everywhere stinks off urine.
Tomas Tichopad
Beautiful place with lot of tourist local taverns.

It's a late medieval (Venetian) fountain that's worth a quick look but nothing really special. The figurine is interesting, possibly older than the fountain. Can be found at the top of the market.

This recently popped up in my timeline and I had no idea it was a historic fountain in Crete. I was simply enjoying an elderly gentleman feeding the pigeons in the heart of Heraklion. As you can see, I was more entranced by the local than I was the fountain but had I known I would have inspected it more closely.
