What makes it 63% Kids-Friendly: The level arch trail and small cascades entertain children, but there are unguarded drop-offs, no play area, and only basic toilets, so parents must supervise constantly and pack snacks and first-aid.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Allows time to walk the arch trail, picnic by the church, and explore the nearby waterfall without rushing younger children.
Easy Arch Trail:
Walk the flat, wide path under the main arches.
Tip: Start at the church layby to follow the 30–45 minute loop and keep kids within sight of drop-offs.
Church Park Picnic:
Enjoy snacks on shaded benches and lawn below the church of Agia Irini.
Tip: Bring a picnic mat and Greek-style treats: cheese, bread and fruit. Supervise children near the edge.
Keratos River Waterfalls:
Follow the stream upstream to small cascades and a hidden cave.
Tip: After rain the falls are fuller. Let kids watch from a safe distance and wear water-resistant shoes.

This acqueduct dates back to the Romans, however, the Egyptians had an incursion to Crete in the 1800's (1830-40's) and they built a second layer or tier and repaired the Roman remainder. This allowed them to bring more water to Heraklion from interior springs at Fountana and Miliara. Egypt, at the time, was a suzerainty of the Ottoman Empire. I won't detail the specifics but the Empire declined...

Amazing construction, with a lot of birds living nearby.

Seemed to house a lot of birds, definitely recommend climbing to the upper level and all the way to the peak

Easy to find and a quick stop after visiting the Palace of Knossos. Combine it with a trip and it works out great. And it's free to look at.

Beautiful views. If you drive a little pas the aqueduct, there’s a place to park and a nice little walk where you can walk past a church up to the top of the aqueduct. There’s also a nice trail by a gorge as well.
In summer, visit before 10 AM to avoid heat and bring sun hats and plenty of water. In winter and after rain, trails get muddy and slippery—use sturdy shoes. Spring and fall offer mild weather and colorful foliage.
