Couples can picnic under rose pergolas, snap photos by ponds and relax at the café for very little cost, yet daytime crowds and sunset closing reduce evening privacy and dining options.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for couple trip: Allows time for a leisurely stroll, picnic by the pond, and a café break
Romantic Stroll and Picnic:
Walk hand-in-hand under oak and palm trees and set up a picnic by a quiet pond.
Tip: Bring a light blanket and pick fresh snacks from a local market before arriving
Pergola of Rosa Banksiae:
Find the wooden pergola east of the central pond covered in white climbing roses during spring.
Tip: Visit in April or May for full bloom and soft afternoon light for photos
Ancient Roman Mosaic:
View the 5th-century villa floor near the Vasilissis Sofias entrance.
Tip: Head there early to avoid crowds and admire the geometric tile patterns up close
Coffee at Kafeneio Café:
Relax under a green pergola with Greek coffee or iced drinks.
Tip: Order a frappé and sit near the benches to watch turtles and birds
Early morning visits in summer keep you cool. Spring (April–May) shows Pergola roses at peak bloom. Autumn afternoons offer golden light on the palm groves.

Beautiful free park to get lost in for a few hours especially with children! There’s a nice controlled entrance to a fenced in playground. There’s some animal exhibits to observe but no petting. Small enclosure that you’re guaranteed to see sunbathing turtles! Right next to the Syntagma Parliament changing of the guards ceremony.

We enjoyed visiting the National Garden during the day. Some sections of the walk offer shade, so there's no need to worry if you go during daylight hours. The place is nice and quiet, and enjoying nature there was truly pleasant. You'll also find puddles with turtles and fish, as well as a playground for the kids. There is a restrooms near the entrance.

Athens National Garden is spectacular. We spent a couple of hours meandering through. There are many species of trees, some really large and old. I am sure it is very beautiful in May and June with many types of flowers and bushes blooming. There is a great children's playground and library. There is a zoo type area with a few animals and lots of birds. There are many nesting parrots in the ...

This is a wonderful place in the centre of Athens. It’s perfect for some peace especially when it’s 40C in the summer. There is plenty of shade and places to sit down in the park. Lots of walking. There’s also animals, such as turtles and ducks here. Of course there are toilets and a kids playground too. Would recommend for anyone visiting Athens.

What makes it even more special for families is that it’s not just a park – it’s also great fun for kids! There are a few playgrounds, plenty of open s...
