What makes it 81% Kids-Friendly: School-age children enter free and can use playbooks, workshops, and elevator, but 284 steps, rooftop edges, and traffic-heavy roundabout require close adult supervision.
Why 1-2 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: A 1-2 hour visit lets kids explore the terrace, museum hall, and sculpture details without getting tired.
Climb to the rooftop terrace:
Purchase adult tickets and use the elevator for part of the climb to reach the 360° viewing platform.
Tip: Arrive 30 minutes before peak times to avoid security lines and enjoy cooler temperatures.
Explore the underground museum:
View models, photos, and artifacts that explain the arch’s history.
Tip: Download the free Arc web app for child-friendly audio stories in your language.
Spot the four relief carvings:
Walk around the base to see “La Marseillaise,” “Victory,” “Peace,” and “Resistance.”
Tip: Use the audio guide’s ‘Facades’ route; ask kids to count figures to keep them engaged.
Complete the Arc de Triomphe Playbook challenge:
Pick up the kids’ activity booklet at the ticket desk and follow prompts around the monument.
Tip: Bring a pencil and set aside 20 minutes; look for hidden symbols in the carvings.
In summer, the terrace stays open later for pleasant evening views. In winter, plan for early sunset to see holiday lights on the Champs-Élysées. Rain can make steps slippery, so pack raincoats and wear non-slip shoes.

Of course, it’s worth visiting if you’re in Paris for the first time – the view from the top is really impressive. Luckily, you don’t have to wait too long to go up. However, the area around is extremely crowded with tourists, people crossing the streets everywhere, so you need to be careful. Also, watch out for pickpockets. Still, as a landmark, it’s definitely beautiful and iconic.

Very cool mount to history. This may not be a great stop if you have children as there is very little interactivity. It is also very difficult for anybody who has mobility impaired as it is 287 steps to this top. There is an elevator, but it takes a special pass and medical information to get access to the elevator.

A magnificent sight that overwhelms when it comes into sight. Tickets and tours should be booked in advance. The amount of police in the area is unbelievable and plentiful along with some soldiers. Easy to access from public transport. Amazing craft work and also the location of the tomb of the unknown soldier.

In the height of the tourist season it was pretty crowded, but the staff moved people along efficiently. Buying tickets in advance allowed us to bypass the ticket line and gain entry with easily. Expect to go through the usual security checks, but even that was fairly quick. It’s a long climb to the top (over 200 steps), but a reasonably fit person can do it without much trouble. The iconic vie...

Magnificent arc located on a busy roundabout. You need to take the subway to reach under the arc. Stunning monument. Amazing detailing. Didn't go inside but really loved visiting this historical monument. There was a sombre mood there but very pleasant experience. Wasn't very busy when we visited. Must visit on a trip to Paris.
