(from 5,506 reviews)

Positives:

  • Stroller-friendly layout: Wide aisles and benches allow easy movement with a stroller.
  • Free main entry: Visiting the nave and chapels costs nothing, so you can pause as needed.
  • Nearby baby facilities: Changing tables are available in Galeries Lafayette and Saint-Christoly nearby.

Challenges:

  • No on-site restrooms: The basilica lacks toilets and changing tables; plan to use outside facilities.
  • Tower not suited for babies: The belfry’s narrow spiral stairs are unsafe for strollers or carrying a baby.

Featuring a soaring freestanding bell tower that reaches 114 meters in height. This historic site is known for its intricate stone carvings, vibrant stained glass windows, and a significant 19th-century organ located within its spacious interior. The surrounding square remains a lively hub of activity, hosting regular markets and offering a variety of local cafes for visitors to enjoy.

Went on a Sunday when it was closing at 7:00pm. Did not get in but it was a beauty of a structure! Walking there after dark needed a little caution though as it was quite quiet this side of the bridge.

The church is currently under restoration. I will have to come back to see the results. The architecture is beautiful.

On 21.09.25, I had the chance to visit Basilique Saint-Michel on a day when monuments were open free to the public — a rare treat. Entering the towering Gothic church, I was struck by the light filtering through beautiful vitrages. I had a chance to see one of the medieval alabaster relief panels from the famous 15th-century altarpiece: part of the “Joys of the Virgin” set, recently restored and r...

Its inherent character combined with the interpretive narrative literally built into its recreation this has every chance of becoming one of the magnificent churches of Europe. It’s lovely and evocative above its historic and spiritual echos one can imagine a re...
