Mercure Shanghai Hongqiao South (couple trip)

The information they give you isn’t clear at all because everything has to go through a translator, and it’s super uncomfortable trying to communicate like that. The lack of English language skills makes communication with the hotel very difficult. Having staff at the front desk unable to solve problems has been frustrating. For two days, we tried to communicate and resolve issues with our rooms, but they did not provide any solutions.

The last hotel our tour booked us in during our stay in Shanghai for two nights. This hotel is just a walk across a shopping centre and an hour and a half drive to our departure airport in Pudong. The bed is comfortable, and the room is spacious. The toilet is separate from the bathroom, but you have no privacy as this room has no area for you to dry yourself after shower. Terrible stay. I am a member of the Accor group, which Mercure belongs to, and have always enjoyed their hotels. Regretfully though, this time I was extremely disappointed. The usual hotel International standards are not met at all at the Hongqiao. Most of the staff does not speak english (incredible: at the reception they hide hoping I do not approach them..) and are making little efforts to help...
