Positives:

  • Guided access to ramparts: All areas are explored with a Parks Canada interpreter, giving you stories and views not on a self-guided path.
  • Social interaction: Small group tours and ceremonies offer chances to meet fellow travelers and band members.
  • Free highlights: You can hear the Noon-Day Gun for free from outside without buying a ticket.

Challenges:

  • No self-guided tours: You cannot explore the ramparts alone; every visit follows scheduled group tours.
  • Strict schedules: Tours and ceremonies start exactly on time; late arrivals must wait for the next session.
  • Limited seasonal events: Music in Red and lantern tours only run in summer and October; winter lacks live events.

Must seen. Amazing historical site. Its an active military zone so you will need to go with a tour guide. Tours are available both in french and English for one hour. We took the English tour. The tour guy, Oliver, was funny and friendly. He guided us through several buildings, provided info and let us took loads of photos and videos. Highly recommended

Really nice place to visit. The staff are friendly and very informative. They explain everything clearly and are happy to answer questions. The guards were interesting to watch and made the visit more engaging. The museum has some recent military items too, not just old history, which was a nice surprise. Worth checking out if you are in Quebec City.
