What makes it 85% Kids-Friendly: Kids up to 12 can pilot the simulator, tackle the digital treasure hunt and attend themed Family Days; wide aisles help supervision, yet no indoor playground and strict no-snack rule may cut stamina.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: 2-3 hours is enough to explore key galleries, try simulators and apps without rushing.
Drive the Train Simulator:
Let kids take the engineer’s seat on the interactive railway driving simulator.
Tip: Arrive early to avoid lines and grab the simulator console before it gets busy.
ErfgoedApp Treasure Hunt:
Follow a free digital story trail through all halls with fun questions for kids.
Tip: Download the ErfgoedApp before your visit and bring headphones for clear audio.
Walk the 19th-Century Viaduct:
Climb onto the old station viaduct for close-up views of steam and diesel locomotives below.
Tip: Head to the viaduct mid-visit when other galleries are busy to enjoy quieter views.
Visit the Reading Nook:
Let younger kids enjoy story time in the cozy reading corner near Hall 3.
Tip: Check daily schedules at the desk to catch the 15-minute live readings.
“Draw Me a Train!” Exhibit:
Use provided pencils to sketch and color alongside historic train models.
Tip: Bring extra coloring pencils or crayons to share and keep kids engaged.

Very interestin museum. I traveled close to 15 countries and only in Brussels found a museum dedicated to railroad. Fantastic exhibits and overall a great place. You should visit it for sure!

Lovely museum with trains ranging from the old times till the latest. There are so many types of them and in some coaches you can even go inside! Fantastic history. Fun place for both adults and the kids! Takes around 2-3 hours to see in peace! Definitely recommended!

An amazing experience for everyone, from families with children, couples or solo travellers. This museum is definitely worth the visit, with its huge collection of locomotives, models, and trivia of the Belgian railway system. I highly recommend the Type 12 train - you won’t miss it, it’s absolutely stunning, green and is undoubtedly the central focus of the museum. I was in awe at how huge it was...

One of the best museums we visited with our kids. So many trains! You can get in many locomotives and wagons. So many information about trains and railway “life”. We spent there about 2 hours and a half. There is also a simulation of train control.
Weekdays are quieter than weekends or school holidays. Check the website for special Family Days in October or spring for extra child-friendly activities.
