What makes it 72% Kids-Friendly: Children enjoy watching swans and taking the 30-min boat tour, but the unfenced water edge, lack of toilets, and need to buy tickets on site mean parents must supervise closely and limit visit length.
Why 2–3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Enough time to stroll the quay, take photos, ride the canal boat, and enjoy a picnic without rushing.
Watch the swans:
Stand by the water’s edge to spot swans gliding past the medieval facades.
Tip: Bring bread crumbs or small snacks to feed them safely from a distance.
Canal boat tour:
Join a 30-minute family-friendly cruise from the Rosary Quay boarding point.
Tip: Buy tickets together on the quay (€15 adult, €9 child 4–11, under-4 free) and arrive 10 minutes early.
Picnic on the steps:
Spread a blanket on the wide stone steps and enjoy snacks by the canal.
Tip: Pack sandwiches and juice; use the quay’s ledges as makeshift tables.
Photo hunt of medieval facades:
Walk the length of the quay to capture reflections of historic houses in the water.
Tip: Go at golden hour (early morning or late afternoon) for soft light.

We went there during midnight and sunrise hour and there was nobody so if you want to take pictures we recommend those hours. The spot if famous for a reason, literally looks like it came out of a painting ❤️❤️

The most picturesque location in Bruges. Here you can also take a boat tour which cost 15 € for 30 minutes ride. I went there in the morning around 10:30 and didn't wait at all. Just bought a ticket on the spot and then boarded the boat, so no reservation is required. The boats were running frequently.

It’s as cute as the photos you’ve seen and another delicious highlight of Bruges. The late afternoon reflections on the canal were just gorgeous. It’s a busy place understandably as bus loads of tourists roll in all day every day to take photos of this spot but if you’re staying in Bruges in summer, I’d just visit after 5pm when they’re all gone. It’s a much nicer photo too.

A magical way to see Bruges! Taking the boat tour was one of the highlights of our visit. Cruising through the canals gave us a totally different perspective of the city—peaceful, romantic, and full of charm. The guide was informative and added a touch of humor while explaining the history of the buildings and bridges we passed. It’s a short ride (about 30 minutes), but absolutely worth it. Great ...

Beautiful spots for pictures with the belfry and canal in the background. There are also good amount of tourist there, but was able to get my picture fairly quickly. There's a boat tour stop there as well, if looking for a boat tour. About $15 per person.
Wear sun hats and carry water in summer. In spring/fall, pack a light raincoat. In winter, wrap kids in warm layers and enjoy holiday lights.
