How Baby-Friendly is Gruuthusemuseum?

35%Baby-Friendly
View Map

What makes it 35% Baby-Friendly: Babies enter free and a toilet has a paid changing table, yet three floors without lifts make strollers impractical; carers must use baby carriers and face many stairs, so the visit is possible but taxing.

Reviews4.6/ 5
(from 1,321 reviews)

Positives:

  • Free child entry: Children under 13 enter at no cost
  • Stroller drop-off: Reception pavilion allows stroller storage at no extra charge

Challenges:

  • No elevator: Three floors and many stairs require a baby carrier instead of a stroller
  • No dedicated nursing room: Use seating areas in the pavilion or ask staff for a quiet corner

Fascinating and magnificent museum in the former home of a wealthy brewer in Brugge from the 15thC. It has recently been extensively restored. Great insights (available in several languages including English) on society, business, and lifestyle of the times. It is important to note that there are no elevators that I was aware of so for anyone with mobility issues accessing the higher floors will ...

Excellent example of how wealthy landowners and merchants would have lived. Beautifully preserved, multiple floors, and loads of period furniture, artifacts, and exhibits with explanations in English. No elevators may discourage the non-climbers. Don’t miss the restored chapel inside the home on the third floor with the secret windows that overlooks into the church next door. This area allowed a...

So much information to learn about the history and the city of Brugge in this museum. It is well organized and presented professionally. I enjoyed going through all the rooms and reading and seeing century old books like the first city ledgers, the agreements between political heads. All very fascinating. Some of the views from this museum are absolutely magnificent- the balcony has the best view...
