What makes it 57% Kids-Friendly: Kids may like the bright craft stalls and quick canal photo, but strong fish smells, no playground, and slippery cobbles mean parents should plan a short, closely supervised stop.
Why 1-2 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: 1–2 hours lets the family browse stalls, take photos and pick small souvenirs without rushing.
Browse craft stalls:
Walk under the colonnade and spot postcards, paintings and trinkets made by local artists.
Tip: Let kids pick a small item; carry coins (€5–€10) as most vendors accept cash only.
Family canal photo stop:
Pose beside the Groenerei canal for classic Bruges boat and water views.
Tip: Head to the corner of the square for the best straight-on shot; watch kids near the edge.
Quick souvenir shopping:
Buy a painted shell or keychain as a budget-friendly memento.
Tip: Limit each child to one item to keep costs under €10 per child.
Short colonnade stroll:
Enjoy the 19th-century stone gallery with its 126 columns and central obelisk pump.
Tip: Point out the obelisk pump to curious kids; the covered area offers rain shelter.

The local artists make this a go to for me. I bought hand- made cards and some earrings. FYI while it began as a fish market is now an open-air covered market.

There were little stalls where you could buy stuff. There was a lady with an old machine which they used to make clothes (I think). There was this lovely lady who painted portraits of other people, very talented.

The Vismarkt (fish market) in Brugge (Bruges) is no longer where they sell fish. The day that we visited there were random vendors selling tourist trinkets. Located near other landmarks in the historic center, it is easy to pass by without spending too much time. And at least the building structure was preserved.

There’s a few local artists that have their stuffs. The surrounding was what makes it special. A lovely place to visit. Better to have cash in hand because few accept card payments

There was no fish when I went there, only crafts and some jewellery stalls. But the surrounding atmosphere was good and a good photo spots with old buildings and boats. Lots of chairs available to enjoy the moment.
Market stalls run only Wednesday to Saturday mornings. In summer, odors can intensify by midday heat; visit early for cooler air and fewer crowds.
