How Baby-Friendly is Burg Square?

67%Baby-Friendly
View Map

What makes it 67% Baby-Friendly: Strollers fit the open plaza and benches allow breaks, and a pay toilet may have a change shelf, yet bumpy cobblestones, no nursing room, and limited shelter cut comfort for longer visits.

Positives:

  • Shaded benches: Several benches under trees let you rest with your baby out of the sun.
  • Free water: Public fountain fills baby bottles without cost.
  • Pushchair access: Lower chapel of Basilica is pushchair-accessible.

Challenges:

  • Uneven cobbles: Cobblestones make stroller wheels jolt; use a baby carrier when needed.
  • Limited seating: Benches are few; bring a small blanket for extra seating.
  • No nursing room: Square has no private nursing area; ask a nearby café or the Tourist Office.

Very beautiful square one street over from Belfort. There is a small street that takes you to the canals.

A charming historical square blending Gothic and Renaissance architecture, one of the most beautiful spots in Bruges. Home to the 15th-century Town Hall and the stunning Basilica of the Holy Blood. The lively atmosphere, street performers, and cozy cafes make it a perfect place to stroll, relax, and enjoy Bruges’ timeless beauty. 🏰✨

The paintings inside were beautiful, and the video showing the timeline of how the building was constructed and later expanded was very informative.

De Burg is one of the oldest and most historically significant squares in Bruges, located just a short walk from the famous Market Square. Once the site of a fortified castle dating back to the 9th century, it became the political and administrative heart of the city. Today, De Burg is surrounded by a remarkable collection of architectural styles, reflecting Bruges’ long and rich history. Highligh...

Great place to visit and take in the atmosphere. Canel trip well worth a try. Food very pricey. Lack of toilets. Plenty of parking. Plenty of shops and you can fill a whole day.. Horse and cart rides 70e.
