What makes it 81% Couple-Friendly: Two adults can stroll the square, see the murals, and split the €160 guided-tour fee, giving full access and romantic photo moments; lack of café seating and evening opening slightly reduce appeal.
Why 1-2 hours visit duration is ideal for couple trip: Allows time to admire the façade, explore the ground-floor hall, and join an optional guided tour.
Admire the Renaissance façade:
Walk around Grote Markt to view and photograph ornate gables, statues, and colorful flags.
Tip: Arrive early to avoid crowds and catch morning light on the stonework.
Explore the ground-floor hall:
Enter the lobby to see vaulted ceilings, coats of arms, and historic stone carvings.
Tip: No ticket needed; spend 15–20 minutes observing murals and inscriptions.
Join the “Our Beautiful Floor” guided tour:
Access the noble upper floor to visit the Council Chamber, Mayor’s Salon, and Wedding Room.
Tip: Book online in advance and share a group tour to reduce cost per person.
Sip coffee at a nearby terrace:
Relax on a café terrace in Grote Markt after your visit.
Tip: Try local Antwerpse handjes biscuits with your coffee.

A16th Century built Architectural Marvel.Decorated with National Flags of various Nations. Nice to see flags . There is a fountain in front of the building. The town hall and the market square is a must visit place. The City hall has been a symbol of its pride and beauty. The cathedral and guild houses are other attractions in the square.

I have been there on last Sunday, and I don’t why but it was filled with a lot of countries’ flags… such a beautiful place, making a great harmony with the monument in the center.

Pretty city hall with a nice statue in the front and excellent exhibits that explain the cities plan for parks and highway removal

Built in the 16th century, this UNESCO-listed building is adorned with statues, flags, and intricate details that showcase the city’s rich history and craftsmanship. The City Hall has been a symbol of Antwerp's civic pride and governance for centuries, and its elegant facade is a highlight of the Grote Markt. Very beautiful. Shame the weather is not nice so couldn’t get good photos
In summer, visit early to beat heat and crowds. During late November–December, enjoy the Christmas market lights around City Hall. In spring and autumn, outdoor cafés fill the square—perfect for a post-visit drink.
