How Kids-Friendly is Sydney Zoo?

Children up to 12 watch free-roaming kangaroos, crawl through aquarium tunnels, and join paid Mini Zookeeper or Squirrel Monkey programs; flat paths and ample toilets ease a busy family day.

Considerations for visiting Sydney Zoo (with kids)

Positives:

  • Stroller-friendly paths: Wide, flat walkways make it easy to push or hire a stroller for younger kids.
  • Free parking: Parking is free onsite, close to the main entrance for easy access.
  • Parents’ rooms: Several unisex parents’ rooms offer space for nappy changes and feeding.

Challenges:

  • Long walking distances: The route covers about 3km; bring comfy shoes or a stroller for little legs.
  • Café queues: The zoo café can get busy at noon; pack snacks to avoid long waits.
  • Variable animal activity: Some animals rest midday; plan to visit those exhibits in the morning.

Recommended visit duration: 2-3 hours

Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: A 2–3 hour visit lets kids explore each precinct at a comfortable pace.

I had a wonderful time and achieved my goal of seeing a real kangaroo and koala. My vacation was centered around this and I am so happy. I also got to see a lot more animals as well. I enjoyed myself from beginning to the end and highly recommend. You will not be disappointed as you can get close enough to have a unique experience. For a greater value, you could buy a combo ticket which includes t...

Good zoo! The outdoor exhibits were really good, with big enclosures. However, I found the aquarium part of the zoo to be rather average and had a weird smell. Overall, I believe this is a good zoo, but small. Personally, I wouldn't pay $45 to enter due to its small size, but if you can get a discount, it would make it worthwhile.

Sydney Zoo exceeded our expectations! The variety of animals was fantastic — we saw elephants, lions, crocodiles, and hyenas, all looking healthy and active. Some of the highlights were the capybaras, Tasmanian devils, and wombats, which were fascinating to watch. We were lucky to visit around lunchtime when many animals were particularly active. It's a great destination for families with kids. A...

Finally attended the GLOW show for my sons 10th and he had a blast! The ride tickets were a little expensive but short and sweet to attend. Plenty of parking and suitable for young families. Definitely would go again but this time buy more ride tickets!!
