What makes it 40% Kids-Friendly: Older, sure-footed kids may climb if watched constantly, but loose gravel, cliff edges, full sun, and the total lack of toilets or tables make the outing stressful for most families.
Note: Mount Coolum National Park is 40% Kids-Friendly. You may want to consider other Kids-Friendly Things to Do in Sunshine Coast for a more suitable experience.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Allows a steady pace, breaks, and time to enjoy summit views with children without rushing.
Summit Walk:
Follow the 1.6 km return track to the 208 m high summit.
Tip: Supervise kids on steep sections; use sturdy shoes and carry extra water.
Midpoint Rock Picnic:
Stop at a flat rock shelf halfway for a nature snack break.
Tip: Bring a picnic mat and snacks; keep gear light so kids can move easily.
Wildlife & Whale Spotting:
Look for honeyeaters, falcons and, in season, humpback whales from high points.
Tip: Bring binoculars in May–October; scan the horizon after climbing.

You can see a full video on youtube @mikhaelvlog , this is a great hike. Very beginner friendly , be warned go slow. The whole thing is steps and does take your breathe away. Stop lots , take water.

Pretty much going uphill on steep stairs all the way however it is quite manageable as the return is only 2km with a 185m elevation. Really love walks in rain, or shine. Clearly defined path that can be a bit slippery at times but a good walk up.

Climbed Mt Coolum and it was spectacular. Definitely need comfortable shoes and Definitely take water. Is very rocky and steep in places. Tested my unfitness but take your ti.e and rest to catch your breathe. Take a camera or phone for photos. Look out for wildlife along the way. Birds, butterflies, goannas. Well worth the hike!
Visit in May–October to spot humpback whales from the summit. Avoid December–February peak heat by going early morning.
