What makes it 73% Kids-Friendly: Flat boardwalk lets children spot crabs and birds, and canoe or BBQ boat hire excites older kids, but unfenced water, mosquitos and only drop toilets require close supervision and supplies from parents.
Why 3-4 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Allows time for the boardwalk, picnic, playground and a short family canoe trip without rushing.
Maroochy Wetlands Sanctuary Boardwalk:
Walk the 900 m raised timber path through mangroves and melaleuca forest.
Tip: Start at the Cotton Tree end for shaded benches every 200 m and easy stroller access.
Family-Size Canoe or BBQ Boat Hire:
Hire a 4–6 seat canoe or pontoon with on-board BBQ.
Tip: Book 1–2 hours through local operators at Bradman Avenue and bring marshmallows to roast.
Chambers Island Playground & Picnic:
Cross the footbridge to find tables, gas BBQs and a fenced kids’ playground.
Tip: Pack a picnic and water; the river shallows beside the island are ideal for supervised toddler paddling.
Cotton Tree Esplanade Splash Pad:
Enjoy the lifeguard-patrolled inlet at the river mouth with gentle waves.
Tip: Look for red-and-yellow flags for safe swimming and bring beach toys for sandcastle fun.

A great place to take your doggo for a wander on the beach, with the added bonuses of a toilet and shower block and tables and seats under shelter for shade. It can get pretty busy here even on s weekday, but when we were there, there was plenty of folk coming and going. A great spot to take pics with more seats overlooking the beach. No shops on site for those who are wondering but they are only...

One star - as a result of recent weather conditions only. I found the beginning of the Xanthorrhoea track only because I was using google maps.(I'd entered the name - Maroochy River Conservation Park) and it lead me to this track. The entrance is a "blink and you'll miss it" scenario and required a u turn and (main)road-side parking (there is no car park). I'm not surprised a previous reviewer men...
