The Standardx, Melbourne (solo trip)

We were not prepared for how tiny the room would be. We’ve stayed at the Standard in Manhattan where it makes more sense that the rooms are so small because the whole city is cramped but why would they build a hotel like this in Melbourne, a largely suburban area? If you’ve got two suitcases there will barely be room to open them both and still be able to walk around. There’s a fold out desk barel...

Almost everything here has been great, and the staff is lovely. My only complaint is that the noise from the doors shutting loudly in the hallway is quite bad (at least on the 4th floor). It has woken me up several times, and is even quite rattling during the day since the walls seem to shake whenever the doors open and close (I think the hospitality closet is also nearby so the frequency increase...

Fabulous location in Fitzroy. Contemporary rooms in a surprisingly quiet location. Love the bath sheets and shower pressure (so unusual but welcome). Staff are friendly and helpful. Their cafe does a reasonable breakfast in a location that has no shortage of great cafes. I’m not sure I agree that a Vittoria coffee bag constitutes artisan coffee.

Style Over Substance (and Not Much of Either) My husband and I stayed here recently, and honestly, it was pretty underwhelming for a place that calls itself a “boutique” hotel. We had such a wonderful stay! The room was super cozy, and I loved the cute shower robe. Room service was amazing! Delicious food and excellent wine! Breakfast was fresh and felt so warm and inviting. Highly recommend this hotel!
