Kids 5–12 can hear ‘Round the Twist’ stories and spot whales, yet 136 steep steps, cliff edges, and no toilets on site demand close adult supervision and short stays.
Why 1-2 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Enough time for climbing, photo stops, and a short coastal walk with kids.
Express Lighthouse Climb:
Climb 136 spiral steps to the top platform for a 360° view of the Shipwreck Coast and Otway Mountains.
Tip: Book tickets online and bring water; rest on landings if kids need a break.
Guided Tour:
Join a guide for stories about shipwrecks, lighthouse history, and TV show filming.
Tip: Pick a family-friendly tour and ask for kid-focused tales to keep children engaged.
Coastal Discovery Walk:
Follow the 2.2 km loop trail past whale-watching lookouts to Fairhaven.
Tip: Start from the lighthouse entrance and let kids spot sea stacks and tide pools.
Picnic on the Grassed Knoll:
Enjoy snacks beside the lighthouse base with safe, open grass and sea views.
Tip: Pack closed-toe shoes and sun hats; no playground, so bring simple games for kids.
Eagle Rock Observation Spot:
Walk 15 minutes down the bush track to view the Eagle Rock sea stacks and tidal whirlpools.
Tip: Wear sturdy shoes; the path can be slippery after rain.

We visited yesterday May 26th. Our guide was really good. So passionate and gave us such interesting information. The view from the top was beautiful. This is a great stop when driving the Great ocean road. The general store in Airey's Inlet is also a good stop if you need to pick up things.

What a view!! Pay the small fee, you won’t regret the views & historical points when climbing this lighthouse. The ladies on duty were friendly & fun. The height was a bit daunting initially but didn’t take long to acclimate. Highly recommended!!

Would highly recommend to visit this place. It has amazing views. You can reach to the lighthouse from two sides one is steep path after you park your car and walk but there is another path where when you park your car you can easily walk to the lighthouse good for people with pram.

Split point lighthouse was constructed in 1891 to ensure the safe navigation of ships through Bass strait. You can visit this place on the way to the Great Ocean road. There is a nice lookout at this place.
