How Baby-Friendly is Phillip Island?

Pram-friendly boardwalks and baby-change rooms at Visitor and Penguin centres help, yet chilly night penguin viewing, wind and few nursing rooms demand careful timing and extra warm gear.

Considerations for visiting Phillip Island (with baby)

Positives:

  • Pram-Friendly Paths: All boardwalks and esplanade areas have gentle ramps and smooth surfaces.
  • Baby Facilities Nearby: Visitor centres offer baby-change rooms and buggy parking at top sites.

Challenges:

  • Evening Activities: Penguin Parade runs after dark and may disrupt baby’s sleep schedule.
  • Wind Exposure: Coastal boardwalks can be windy; bring windproof layers for the baby.

Recommended visit duration: 1-2 days

Why 1-2 days visit duration is ideal for with baby: Split visits to allow for baby naps and flexible pacing across key attractions

When is the best time to visit Phillip Island?

In summer, plan early morning beach visits to avoid heat. In winter, dress baby warmly for windy boardwalks. Check feeding times if attending the Penguin Parade.

How to Maximize Your Visit to Phillip Island

  1. Use Visitor Centres: Stop by Cowes or Summerland centres for restrooms, water, and maps.
  2. Pack Portable Shade: Bring a pop-up shade or canopy for beach and boardwalk breaks.
  3. Plan Nap Times: Schedule farm and reserve visits around the baby’s nap to avoid crankiness.

Went on a road trip with 3 of my Mates and it was honestly a great experience. There are amazing restaurants and not to mention the view around the beaches. The Koalas and wallabies are a great sight around the island.

Nice little town to vacation to, we went to Philip island during the long weekend and was our first time. The weather was a little cloudy and gloomy at the time we were there but would be nice during the summer perhaps. Was a long road trip to get there from Geelong so be prepared for the long drive.

The baby penguins mistaking every returning penguin for their mother and running toward them was absolutely adorable, we couldn’t stop laughing! These tiny penguins wait for their mothers in burrows scattered across the island, eagerly anticipating their return. You can witness the world’s smallest penguins emerging from the sea, carrying food back to their waiting chicks as part of their daily ro...
