What makes it 77% Kids-Friendly: School-age kids get child-priced tickets, small-size snorkel gear, fenced swim area, fish-feeding shows and semi-sub tours, but parents must supervise in deep-water conditions.
Why 4-8 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Allows time for snorkelling, observatory, fish feeding, pool play and lunch without rushing.
Snorkeling at the Playground:
Swim among shallow coral canyons and bommies in 1โ14 m of water.
Tip: Use the provided buoyancy vests for kids and start at the shallow end near the pontoon.
Underwater Observatory:
See colorful fish and turtles through below-deck windows without getting wet.
Tip: Visit mid-morning when water clarity peaks and seats are easier to get.
Semi-Submersible Reef Tour:
Explore the reef on a glass-bottom vessel while staying dry.
Tip: Seat children by the windows and help them spot bright corals and fish.
Fish Feeding Presentation:
Watch a marine biologist feed large schools of reef fish at the platform.
Tip: Stand at the rail for close-up views and encourage kids to ask questions.
Supervised Swimming Enclosure:
Let younger kids splash safely in a shallow fenced pool beside the pontoon.
Tip: Bring swim shirts; life vests are provided and rest areas are steps away.

Absolutely amazing! Water was beautiful and saw sharks at night, on Christmas Eve! Best experience ever, made possible by Reef Encounter Cairns. The photographers from Scubabo also extremely nice! Sunrise photo attached!

For being a commercial site with many large boats, the reef and fish life are spectacular. So many colours, huge parrotfish, wrasse, grouper, giant clams, sea cucumbers, and more. Perfect for a beginner snorkeler or diver. As a marine biologist that has dove a lot of sites, this one is perfect for budding scientists!

It is a fantastic spot for snorkelling and scuba diving. Crystal clear water, beautiful coral and lots of beautiful fish. I really enjoyed it and I recommend it for anyone. I went with Downunder Cruise and Dive from Cairns, Queensland, Australia. They have excellent facilities and great service.
Between June and October seas are calm and visibility is best. From November to April watch for jellyfish, use stinger suits and follow crew advice.
