We spent the night at Butterfly Bay, Hook Island. Peaceful, beautiful. We took a public mooring, easy to access. We had a whale close to the yacht, and saw Manta Rays and dolphins. Reef was easily visible low tide. Great shelter from the prevailing winds from the SE.

When is the best time to visit Hook Island (Great Barrier Reef Area, Australia)?

After heavy rains (December–March), check Nara Inlet for a fresh-water rock pool and small waterfall at low tide.
